11:45 AM Windows 8 should be bought for its performance improvements as well as its (much-debated) UI, Steve Ballmer told a Silicon Valley crowd. He also suggested once again (previous) that Microsoft (MSFT) will build additional hardware, and that its Lync unified communications platform will be converged with Skype. And if Microsoft has any regrets about Bing, which has produced billions in losses in recent years, Ballmer didn't express them. (Read the comments on this)
