Social Commerce Start-Up Chirpify Extends Payments Platform to Instagram

Social Web commerce platform Chirpify now supports in-stream payments on Instagram, the company announced on Tuesday. The company first began as a way for merchants to sell items to followers on Twitter from within the stream, only requiring buyers to "@reply" to sellers with simple commands like "buy" or "donate." The launch on the new Instagram platform comes complete with a number of celebrity merchants touting their wares. read more »

Square, the mobile payments company started by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, announced today that it will be moving its corporate headquarters next year to 1455 Market Street in San Francisco's Central Market neighborhood (next to Twitter). The move will help accommodate the company's hiring plans, which include adding about 600 employees over the next year to reach a total of 1,000. Square expects to move into its new location, which will have a chef's kitchen and rooftop deck, by mid 2013. read more »

Twitter has snatched up Matthew Derrella, a former Google business development director, Derella announced Monday morning via his Twitter account. As was first reported by AdAge, Derella will head up ad agency partner relations, working under global revenue president Adam Bain. The hire comes in the wake of Twitter luring away a number of Googlers for high-ranking positions, including comms chief Gabriel Stricker and VP of global online sales Richard Alfonsi. read more »

Online education start-up Clever closed a $3 million seed round of funding, the company announced on Monday. Investors participating in the round include those from SV Angel, Y Combinator, Mike Maples, Jeff Clavier, Google, Ashton Kutcher and others. Clever -- a company which provides tools to third-party ed-tech developers in order to better integrate into school system software -- first launched at the end of June, a product of the Y Combinator startup-accelerator program. read more »

CrowdSource, which uses hundreds of thousands of workers to manage labor-intensive tasks at scale, raised $12.5 million in a Series A funding round. The funding was led by Highland Capital Partners. The start-up, which focuses on content creation and structuring big data, said it will use the funds to expand offerings, add workers and increase sales and marketing. read more »
