6:33 PM More on Apple: 1) Engadget's review of the updated regular iPad finds it delivers more than a 2x performance boost relative to the 3rd-gen model, and a slight improvement in battery life. 2) CNET's lengthy profile of Internet software/services chief Eddy Cue, now in charge of Maps and Siri, depicts a tough negotiator with a knack for improving disappointing products. Cue turned MobileMe into iCloud, but he has also been in charge of iTunes, one of Apple's less beloved software offerings, judging by user ratings. (Read the comments on this)

AAPL: Don't Count Apple Out Just Yet
Don't Count Apple Out Just Yet
by Saibus Research
When Apple (AAPL) recently reported that its results missed consensus expectations, all of Apple's detractors let out a collective cheer that was so loud, it broke the sound barrier up here in Boston. While we did not publish a Q4 2012 estimate for Apple, we were more than content with the $7.65 EPS estimate provided by Apple's management. We were satisfied with this estimate because Apple's management guidance called for a 7.8% increase in its EPS during the quarter and the company generated 23%. Apple reported quarterly revenue of $36B and quarterly profit of $8.2B, or $8.67 EPS. Apple saw strong corporate-wide growth due to strong sales growth from its key product lines. Revenue enjoyed a strong 27% increase versus Q4 2011 and EPS grew by 23%. read more »

6:17 PM With shares below $600, Apple (AAPL -1.4%) bear Doug Kass has decided to take a small trading long position. Kass thinks his concerns are now baked in, and expects Apple to hold its 200-day moving average of $588. Meanwhile, Apple's traditional defenders on the Street continue praising its management overhaul (I, II): JPMorgan is relieved Jony Ive is sticking around, and RBC argues John Browett's removal was necessary in light of how he alienated retail workers.
