But the struggling Japanese company was forced to cut it short when it was overwhelmed by volunteers. Sharp said Tuesday it curtailed its early retirement program a week into its two-week run after receiving nearly 3,000 applications -- 1,000 more than it had expected. Previously, Wing did a four-year stint as the assistant director of research for the National Science Foundation, and headed the computer science department at Carnegie Mellon University. Luo was formerly Facebook's global head of small and medium business marketing. Before joining Facebook, Luo led acquisition marketing at Google for their AdWords product across all of Asia-Pacific.
