Apple Inc. (AAPL) has grown over the last decade or so from a personal computer maker to a producer of music players, phones, tablets, set-top boxes for home-entertainment, and traditional personal computers. In connection with that transition, Apple implemented a new pricing policy that shifted the company from a premium-priced computer vendor to a mass-market manufacturer committed to competing with products at price points designed to deny price shields to competitors.
