7:18 PM Does Facebook (FB) need to worry about mobile messaging platforms? Reuters and the WSJ have both taken a look at the surging popularity of apps such as WhatsApp, Kik, and Line. Banking on ease-of-use and the ability to avoid texting fees, the apps have reeled in hundreds of millions of users, and are fast creating developer ecosystems. Facebook is returning fire with its Messenger app, and still boasts the network effects yielded by 1B+ users. Much like Twitter, the messaging platforms are unlikely to blow Facebook away, but arguably pose a threat to user engagement. Read comments
