In a new note, he writes that "Facebook is likely beta testing a video ad product where advertisers could distribute video posts", and predicts it will arrive this year, "possibly in late 1H13." read more »

Hewlett-Packard CEO Meg Whitman has switched a previous political stance, signing a legal document saying that gay people have a constitutional right to be married. The move -- which was coordinated by dozens of high-profile Republicans -- came in the form of a brief to the Supreme Court as part of a case it is hearing to strike down California's controversial Proposition 8, which barred same-sex marriage. Whitman was a vocal supporter of the ballot initiative when she ran unsuccessfully for governor in the state. read more »

Apple Offers iTunes Credits to Settle In-App Purchase Suit

Apple has settled a class action lawsuit that claimed its 2011-era in-app purchase policy failed to prevent children from racking up big fees on their parents' accounts. Under the terms of the not yet finalized deal, Apple will offer eligible class members a $5 iTunes gift card, an account credit or, for claims over $30, a cash payment. Apple did not respond to a request for comment. read more »

Boost, Virgin Mobile Roll Out No-Contract LTE Phones

Virgin Mobile today said that it would sell the Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE smartphone with the company's BeyondTalk unlimited data plans, marking the first LTE phone the wireless brand is offering without a contract. The smartphone is available for $300 with plans that start at $35 a month. Boost Mobile, another Sprint-owned brand, is now offering the HTC One SV phone for $300, along with Boost's $55 Android Unlimited monthly plan. The smartphone will run on Sprint's 3G and 4G networks (where available). read more »
