GOOG: Google (GOOG) has petitioned the FCC for a...

2:48 PM Google (GOOG) has petitioned the FCC for a license to create an "experimental radio service" using high-frequency bands around its HQ. A source tells CNET Google isn't planning to use the spectrum to launch a consumer service, but details are otherwise scant. Google is already known to be investing in Wi-Fi hotspots, and has successfully lobbied the FCC to free up "white space" TV spectrum for wireless data use. Google HQ is rife with construction activity tied to secretive projects. Read comments
