GOOG,AMZN: Google (GOOG) is doubling the size of its...

3:49 AM Google (GOOG) is doubling the size of its office space near Seattle and ramping up the hiring of cloud-technology engineers as it looks to take on Amazon (AMZN) Web Services and Microsoft's (MSFT) Azure. Separately, the company has come to an agreement with 38 states to pay $7M to settle accusations that it breached people's privacy with the "drive-by data collection" of personal information when mapping Street View. AAPL: Problems with new casing colors have pushed...

6:05 PM Problems with new casing colors have pushed back the iPhone 5S (AAPL -2.2%) launch to calendar Q3 from June, writes Peter Misek in his gloomy note. Misek also expects a cheaper. plastic-bodied iPhone (Apple's design philosophy makes this questionable), and believes Sharp's light/low-power IGZO displays will be used in the 5th-fen iPad (more believable). He now predicts an iTV won't arrive this year due to challenges in making "a display that looks like 4K/Ultra HD but without the super-premium cost" - BI observes Misek's iTV forecasts haven't been too accurate. 6:15 PM Google (GOOG) has bought DNNResearch, a startup leveraging neural networks to improve voice/image search. The purchase appears to be an "acqui-hire" - DNNresearch doesn't have any products, but it does have Prof. Geoffrey Hinton, a renowned neural network expert. Google had long had an interest in using neural networks to analyze content not easily handled by traditional search algorithms. Read comments
