| Saturday, February 23, 2013 | | | | Tom LaSusa | | | | | Thanks to everyone who emailed me about the Apple iWatch. There were some really great thoughts, which I bundled up and posted as a commentary on the site. As I quickly discovered, watch-wearers are far from a dying breed. That being said, I'm still not sold on the idea of a smart watch unless it has a specific purpose (those health monitoring rumors I'd mentioned). Also, given how often people are robbed of their phones, one can only imagine how nasty it could get once the crooks realize that that thing on someone's wrist is more than just a watch. To borrow from Stewie Griffin, "Why can't we have nice things?" This week, Google debuted the Chromebook Pixel, the company's newest Chrome OS computer. This latest version is being touted as a serious competitor to Apple's MacBook Air and the higher-end MacBook Pro. Judging from the pics -- and reviewer Tom Claburn's thoughts -- in our slideshow, it looks like a solid machine IMO. Editorial Director Fritz Nelson (in a related article) isn't quite as convinced: "I've always liked the idea behind the Chromebook, but I'm starting to get skeptical: more costly, more frills, in a market that hasn't seen much growth (and that's being charitable), and a product that hasn't had success." Take a look at our slideshow and let me know: Would you put the Pixel on your radar for a possible purchase? If not, why? Drop me a line at tom.lasusa@ubm.com.
