Google Chairman Eric Schmidt to Sell Up to 42 Percent of Stake

Eric Schmidt, former CEO and now Chairman of Google, plans to sell up to 3.2 million shares of his class A common stock in the company, according to an SEC filing published Friday. The amount is equal to approximately 42.1 percent of his overall stake in Google. Schmidt will sell off the shares over the coming year in a "pre-arranged trading plan," created for a "long-term strategy of individual asset diversification and liquidity." read more »

Microsoft Gives Surface RT to Europe for Valentine's Day

Three months after debuting its new Surface RT in the United States, Microsoft is is increasing the device's overseas availability. The company said today that on February 14 it will launch the RT in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. Still no word on when the RT's more powerful Surface Pro sibling will hit Europe, though it is due to arrive at market in North America tomorrow. read more »

Zynga Game Vets Raise $1.4 Million to Start Bee Cave Games

Bee Cave Games has raised $1.4 million in funding to build casino games. The Austin, Texas, company was founded by Erik Bethke, Nimai Malle and Jeremy Strauser, all of whom worked at Zynga on games, including Mafia Wars, Texas Hold'em Poker and Bingo. The round was funded in part by its own employees and from publicly held Glu Mobile. The company's first game, Blackjack Casino, is in private beta on Facebook, and there are mobile versions under development. read more »

Eric Feng, a mainstay in digital media properties such as Hulu, Airtime and Erly, announced on Friday that he will join the executive team of Flipboard, the social magazine app made popular on smartphones and tablets. Feng will join the startup as CTO and second in command to CEO Mike McCue, and will head up engineering and strategy for the company. Feng will also bring along Eugene Wei, a colleague of Feng's who rose to prominence at Hulu and was VP of Product at Erly. read more »
